[20M] Experiencing a range of symptoms including severe ear ringing and joint pain

Question

So much is going on with me, I lost my job because of it, I just want to know why this is happening

Patient Description

A 20-year-old male has been experiencing a variety of symptoms over the past week, including severe ringing in the ears described as a constant shrill noise, particularly exacerbated by eating, drinking, or talking. The patient reports joint pain in the knees, with the left knee being more painful than the right. The pain in the knees has been described as a burning sensation with constant popping and a feeling of being in a vise. The right knee pain has been present for a few years due to an old injury, while the left knee pain started a week ago. Additionally, the patient has been dealing with dizziness and blurred vision, which worsen with movement. The patient describes the dizziness as both a spinning sensation and feeling lightheaded. The blurred vision has been present for five days and persists even with glasses, with colors appearing to smudge. The patient also reports a sore throat that makes swallowing and talking painful, ongoing for a week, and constant nausea for the past three days without vomiting. The stomach feels bloated, described as an overinflated water balloon, particularly around the navel, for the past four days. The eyes have been bloodshot and burning for a week, described as dry and irritated. The patient has a history of multiple head injuries but is not currently on any medications and has no known allergies. The patient denies recent infections, illnesses, or use of recreational drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products.

What might be happening

Based on the information you've provided, here are some possible explanations for your symptoms:

  • Lyme Disease: This is a bacterial infection that can cause a wide range of symptoms, including joint pain, fatigue, dizziness, and ringing in the ears. It's transmitted through the bite of an infected tick.

  • Autoimmune Disorders: Conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus can cause joint pain, fatigue, and other symptoms. These conditions occur when your immune system mistakenly attacks your own body.

  • Viral Syndrome: A viral infection could potentially explain your sore throat, fatigue, and nausea. However, it would not typically cause joint pain or ringing in the ears.

  • Meniere's Disease: This is a disorder of the inner ear that can cause severe dizziness (vertigo), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), hearing loss, and a feeling of fullness or congestion in the ear.

  • Concussion or Traumatic Brain Injury: Given your history of multiple concussions, some of your symptoms could be related to these past injuries.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and other conditions could also explain your symptoms.

What you can do

Given the severity and number of your symptoms, it's important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Schedule an appointment with your primary care provider. If you can't get an appointment soon, consider going to an urgent care clinic or emergency department.

  2. Write down all of your symptoms, including when they started, how severe they are, and anything that makes them better or worse. This will help your healthcare provider make a diagnosis.

  3. Bring a list of all medications you're currently taking, including any over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or supplements.

  4. If you think you may have been exposed to a tick, tell your healthcare provider. This could be important information for diagnosing Lyme disease.

What you should look out for

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following:

  • Severe headache
  • Fever
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Any new or worsening symptoms

I'm not sure where you are located but this does seem to be possibly a infection. You should get a doctor send some infectious disease labs to see if there are any antibiotics you can take
