What might be happening

Based on your symptoms and history, here are some possibilities:

  • Post-Surgical Nerve Pain: Sometimes, surgery can lead to nerve irritation or damage, causing intermittent pain or numbness around the scar. This might explain the dull pain and numbness you feel.

    • Treatment often involves pain management, and sometimes physical therapy can help.
  • Inguinal Hernia Recurrence: Although less likely, hernias can recur, causing discomfort or pain, especially when lying in certain positions.

    • Treatment would typically involve a medical evaluation and possibly imaging to confirm.

What you can do

  1. Positioning: Try sleeping on your left side or back to see if it alleviates the pain.
  2. Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain relief, like acetaminophen, may help. However, consult your doctor before taking new medications.
  3. Symptom Tracking: Use MDandMe to journal your symptoms, track any changes, and share this information with your healthcare provider.
  4. Consult Your Doctor: It's important to discuss these symptoms with your doctor, especially if they persist or worsen.

What you should look out for

  • Increased Pain or Swelling: If you notice any new swelling, increased pain, or changes in the area, seek medical attention.
  • Changes in Sensation: If numbness worsens or you experience new symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.
  • Testicular Changes: Any changes in the size or feel of your testicle should be evaluated by a doctor.

Remember, it's always best to consult with a healthcare professional for a formal diagnosis and treatment plan.
